Welcome to YouCentred Counselling for Wellbeing
Where healing and growth from anxiety happens with each small step

Counselling that gets to the heart of you
Sometimes the most powerful healing begins in silence, away from noise, opinions, and expectations, where you’re finally heard, supported, and free to explore what’s really driving your anxiety.
Anxiety is intense and affects both mind and body—our core sense of self. As humans primed for threat, stress, anxiety, and panic form a continuum, escalating when threats are ignored or suppressed.
As counselling helps you tune into your emotions, you’ll build a steadier emotional buffer during stress and trauma.
Modern life often dismisses stress, anxiety, and panic as outdated burdens, even though our primal instincts remain. As technology advances, we’re still wired like cave-people—making these emotions feel irrelevant, yet deeply rooted.
But should we? Is it serving us? Can we seek help in counselling?
Supporting you through stress, anxiety, depression and trauma with compassion, integrity and professional and ethical competence.

Helping you to work through painful and intimidating emotions by fostering awareness and acceptance of Self.
Enhancing your inner capacity to heal, grow and move towards a better future with less fear, more hope, more confidence and motivation inside.

Feel Supported with Client First Counselling
Hi, I’m Carl Argent and it is a genuine privilege to have you here today, reading about my approach to counselling. I’d like you to know from the outset that I run an equitable practice where your needs come first,
I’m a qualified counsellor, practicing in-person within the Southend-on-Sea area, and nationally online. Furthermore, I am an accredited member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), which means I offer high quality counselling that is ethical and safe, and a member of ICEEFT.
I am trained in person-centred therapy, with an accredited Counselling Practitioner Diploma and trained by ICEEFT in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). I am also currently undergoing accreditation for a Positive Psychology Coaching Practitioner Diploma. In addition, my practice is ‘you centred’. This means you are right at the heart where everything is appropriately tailored towards your needs. I work with adults from age 17 onwards.
Ongoing training and professional development
This is why I take professional development seriously. It reflects an ethical commitment to you — ensuring my skills stay current and my practice continues to evolve.

Whenever life feels overwhelming, counselling can offer a vital, non-judgemental space. It helps you recognise that your struggles do, in fact, carry purpose and meaning. In truth, stress and anxiety are part of our human design — signals that something important may have been set aside or buried.
And so, therapy becomes a space to gently uncover what’s been hidden, and to reconnect with what truly matters.
It is not always the situation itself that causes the problem we bring to counselling; it is more how we process the emotions that the problem brings up in us.
However, it’s important to remember — this is not your fault. Facing emotions can be frightening. In fact, many of us try to avoid feelings that seem negative, unfamiliar, or unacceptable to our values. As a result, we often suppress them. This avoidance, though, can lead to rumination, self-sabotage, anxiety, and even panic. Consequently, a negative feedback loop begins. Over time, harsh self-talk, catastrophic thinking, or self-blame can take over. Eventually, these patterns may push you toward choices and behaviours that don’t reflect who you truly are.
Do you wonder why?
I will work with you to find out. I’m here not only to help you cope with anxiety, but also to explore why certain situations feel like ‘problems’. For example, you might feel angry, yet find it hard to move forward in life.
So, in therapy, we’ll unpack that together. Perhaps, we’ll discover that anger is protecting a deeper need for closeness. In addition, I’ll help you identify emotional patterns that hold you back — and explore what lies beneath them.
Over time, with me by your side — sometimes leading, sometimes following — you’ll find ways to transform those emotions and thought patterns. As a result, you’ll begin expressing yourself more freely and building a more secure relationship with yourself and others.
Also, anxiety may become less frequent, and depression may ease as you give emotions space and discover deeper meaning.
Moreover, this process helps you gain understanding and take back control — on your terms, in your own time. Eventually, you’ll be drawn toward meaningful solutions that truly work for you — ones you’ve created yourself.
Even if you don’t see it yet, doesn’t it feel exciting and liberating to build confidence and strengthen your resilience?
Additionally, I offer ‘life after therapy’ support to enhance your authenticity, emotional regulation, and motivation. Altogether, this combined approach offers greater direction and meaning — helping you truly thrive.

Counselling Prices
Feeling liberated costs money, time (usually between 12 and 24 sessions) and effort. Besides, taking this brave step into your personal unknown is a commitment and investment in yourself and in your overall wellbeing.
I charge £55 for a 50-minute session, and I work in-person in my counselling room in Shoeburyness or online via Google Meet (your choice). If you are a student (including counselling trainees) or key worker, I offer a reduced fee of £45. I don’t charge extra for Saturdays or weekday evenings.
If you are autistic or have ADHD, and cannot complete the standard 50 minute session, I also offer an alternative charge of £25 for 30 minutes.
Access to my counselling room is via two flights of stairs. If you can’t make the stairs, have mobility or accessibility requirements we can discuss home visits at a higher charge of £70 for 60 minutes.
Hours of Practice
I practice Monday to Friday 08:00 to 19:00, and Saturday 09:00 to 18:00.
Other Practical Details
I offer a limited number of concessionary rates if you are experiencing financial hardship — please feel free to discuss this with me privately.
I manage all session bookings on your behalf and you will receive an email confirmation with a link to cancel or reschedule. My cancellation policy asks for at least 24 hours’ notice to avoid being charged for the session.
I don’t have dedicated parking but there is free street parking available nearby.

Moreover, I offer flexible seating (even a bean bag) or we can sit on the floor if you prefer, and a ‘calm-down corner’ with items like fidget toys and items with soft and interesting textures.
